Stories of high school sweethearts always tug at the heartstrings and are some of my favorite moments to capture as a Sonoma & Mendocino County Wedding Photographer. It is love that developed at a young age and has grown together into a mature relationship. That is Sara and Jacob’s love story.
They met each other on and off growing up, until they officially became friends in high school. Then their relationship quickly blossomed and Jacob asked Sara on a date. For their first date, the went for sushi together.
Sara remembers that Jacob brought her a rose that he picked from his parents house, which she thought was cute. She was both excited and nervous for the date. Evidently so was Jacob, because they both ordered a roll, but only ate one piece!
Things only picked up from there. They became each other’s best friends, their rocks, their “person.” They do everything together from watching sports games (Go Niners!) to playing games and cooking. Jacob even tags along on Sara’s girls nights!
Even though they mostly keep it casual, they know how to make special memories together through various date nights. Jacob’s favorite date was when he took Sara mini golfing and she beat him. One that stands out to Sara is actually another sushi moment for the couple. They were going to get sushi, but someone had taken their parking spot after the meal. That wouldn’t seem so bad, except for the fact that it was pouring down rain.
They had to park on the street and run back to their shared apartment, getting soaking wet. While this may have seemed like a disastrous end to the evening, it turned out to be one of the first times Jacob promised Sara forever. Once they were inside, he gave her her promise ring. It makes sense why this was Sara’s favorite date.
However, what Sara describes as “the best day ever” was actually her and Jacob’s nine year anniversary. Yep, you guess it: this is when he proposed.
On November 11, 2019, Jacob asked to make their nine year relationship permanent by proposing to Sara. Jacob worked hard to keep the proposal a secret. He actually had two surprises planned that day – one to throw Sara off and the other was the ring.
First he planned a picnic where they shared fried chicken, macaroni salad, and wine. Then, he took her shopping (where she bought him another 49er shirt) and, then, he took her to get her tattoo fixed ( the faux surprise). This surprise was enough to make Sara cry, little did she know what was coming.
Well, between the outline of her new tattoo and coloring it in, Jacob got down on one knee and popped the question! Sara obviously said yes and from that moment they knew their forever could begin.
Two years later, on the beautiful afternoon of April 3, 2021 the couple tied the knot in front of their family, friends, and loved ones. This was a day I was fortunate enough to capture as a Mendocino County Wedding Photographer.
The ceremony itself was very sweet. They exchanged vows in front of their family friends and then invited their loved ones to celebrate with them afterwards, which included cocktails and hors d’oeuvres a la fresca while breathing in the fresh sea air.
During this time, Sara and Jacob had their post ceremony photo session with me! As a Sonoma & Mendocino County Wedding Photographer, I was able to capture it every moment of their wedding day, not just the ceremony and reception. From the first look, to the first kiss, to the first dance as a married couple – everything was shot from my lens.
After our photoshoot, we moved along to the reception which took place under a grand tent provided by Matt Rowland Events. This is where Sara and Jacob, along with their guests ate, drank and danced for the rest of the evening. They partied all night long thanks to the help of Nor Cal Pro Sound. DJ Tony did what he does best and packed the dance floor while playing a nice blend of Sara and Jacob's playlist as well as their guests requests. A special request of Y&T was played for Sara's parents .... and they totally rocked out! The evening ended with a romantic dance to "I've had the time of my life" from Dirty Dancing.
The evening was complete with many toasts and speeches and many tears were shed, lots of laughter was shared, and most importantly, an abundance of love filled the reception space and the hearts of everyone attending. This was one of my most special memories to photograph as a Sonoma & Mendocino County Wedding Photographer.
I love all of the couples that I get to work with, each one is special and unique in their own way. High school sweethearts are always fun because their love is the perfect combination of a young first love and mature, established relationship. Sara and Jacob were such a fun couple to capture and I wish them the best moving forward in their journey together.
